At best, vehicle maintenance schedules can tell you approximately when your car needs an oil change, tire rotation, and other key services. Rather than relying on a regular maintenance schedule, new Honda models use the Maintenance Minder system to tell you exactly when it’s time to schedule your next appointment. You’ll even know which service your car needs thanks to the Honda Maintenance Minder code that pops up on your vehicle’s dash display! Learn more about Honda maintenance codes in the guide below from Van's Honda.
So, how do Honda maintenance codes tell you what your vehicle needs? Let’s consider oil changes, one of the services your car will need most often. Your vehicle measures engine oil life as a percentage—starting with 100% immediately after an oil change and winding down to 0% as the miles on the odometer tick upward. You’ll see this percentage displayed on the information center each time you turn on your vehicle. At 15%, the system will turn on the Honda maintenance codes and alert you with a “Service Due Soon” message. That’s your cue to schedule service in Depere or Appleton as soon as you can!
Honda maintenance Minder codes will always be displayed as a code, so it’s a good idea to be familiar with how to read them. Codes begin with a letter known as the main-code indicating the broader category, followed by a number (the sub-code) indicating the specific service:
Main-Code | Meaning |
---|---|
A | Replace just the Engine Oil |
B | Replace the Engine Oil, Oil Filter, Inspect Front and Rear Brakes, Check the Parking Brake Adjustment, Inspect other items specific to the Vehicle |
Sub-Code | Meaning |
---|---|
1 | Rotate Tires |
2 | Replace the Air Cleaner Element, Check the Drive Belt, Replace the Dust and Pollen Filter |
3 | Replace the Transmission Fluid and Transfer Fluid (if equipped) |
4 | Replace the Spark Plugs, Replace the Timing Belt (if equipped), Inspect the Water Pump, Inspect Valve Clearance |
5 | Replace the Engine Coolant |
6 | Replace Rear Differential Fluid (if equipped) |
If you’ve recently jump-started your car or replaced the battery, you may notice that your car radio is requesting an audio system code. Manitowoc drivers can sometimes resolve this problem by pressing and holding the radio’s power button until the display turns off and then back on. If this doesn’t restore radio functions, then you will need to find your vehicle’s Honda radio code and enter it manually. Here’s how:
