What types of car seats are there?
Car seats come in many shapes and sizes, but there are three main ones that you’ll want to pay attention to:woman putting child in car seat

Infant car seat: these car seats face the back of the vehicle and are usually suitable for infants up to 35 lbs or up to 35 inches
Convertible car seats: these can be alternated between rear-facing or front-facing and can hold older children anywhere from up to 40-80 lbs or up to 57 inches
All-in-one car seat: these are the most versatile of the bunch, as they can hold a child anywhere from infancy up until they are old enough to ride without a car seat.

Which one do you need?
It’s generally best to start out with an infant car seat for any child under 20 lbs. As they get older, you’ll then be able to switch to a convertible or all-in-one car seat. The main difference between an infant car seat and a convertible or all-in-one car seat is that infant car seats can also be used to carry the child while the other two cannot. Additionally, infant car seats allow the baby to be sitting at a 30 to 45-degree angle, which is the ideal setting for an infant while riding in a car.
