Winter Activities near Green Bay, WI
Wisconsin is known for its cold winter weather and intense snowstorms. Although it would be easy to curl up by the fire with hot cocoa, there are plenty of benefits to getting outside and making the most of this snowy season. Here in Green Bay, we are very fortunate to have a variety of outdoor activities in our backyard. Let’s go through five fun winter activities near Green Bay, WI.
Cross Country Skiing, Hiking & Snowshoeing
Hiking and snowshoeing are two easy ways to spend time outside and get active while enjoying nature. There are several places to hike or snowshoe near Green Bay, WI. Check out the list below.
- Winter trees at High Cliff State Park
- Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary is a 600-acre wildlife refuge with miles of hiking and snowshoeing trails. On Thursdays in January and February from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., an event called Ski & Tea takes place and people gather to ski for 45-60 minutes and enjoy tea after.
- High Cliff State Park is a 45-minute drive from Green Bay and has a few scenic miles of skiing, hiking and snowshoeing trails. Snowshoe rentals are available at the park office.
- Peninsula State Park is just over an hour’s drive from Green Bay and has more than five miles of snowshoe and hiking trails, along with more than 30 miles of cross country ski trails.

Sledding
Sledding is a fun winter activity for people of all ages. There are several sledding destinations in the Fox Valley area, so check out the list below!
Triangle Sports Area features an 80-foot sledding hill with a tow rope. Only innertubes are allowed at Triangle Sports Area, and it also features more than three miles of cross-country skiing trails.
Fireman’s Hill is located next to Fire Station No. 6 on the west side of Green Bay and is a great sledding hill for all ages.
Erb Park in Appleton has a sled hill with a warming shelter and an ice rink.
